This is a small copper vase that was made by copper-smiths from Santa Clara del Cobre, Mexico. The hammer footprint on this copper piece is very visible because the hammer is the main, if not the only, tool used to create this piece of art. Hammering the red-hot copper is only one of the many ancient techniques used by the copper-smiths. Another feature you may notice is the reddish/oxidized texture. The reddish/oxidized texture is a characteristic of natural copper when it is cooled down from red-hot temperatures using cold water. The only tools that are used in this process are the furnace to heat the copper and the hammer to give it its shape.
This small vase was made from just one sheet of copper, raised with the artist?s hammer. You will notice that there are no welded joints. If used as a flower vase, it looks terrific!
This is the perfect unique gift for a loved one, or a special gift for yourself.
